DBT scheme to be extended in 78 new districts from July 1, 2013

UPA Government’s ambitious Aadhaar based Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme which began from January 1, 2013 in 20 districts will be extended to 78 new districts including Raebareli and Amethi of Uttar Pradesh. This implementation will occur from 1st July 2013. The DBT scheme is already under process in 43 different districts of various states and the inclusion of 78 more districts will take the total to 121 districts. The scheme will include old-age, widow and disability pension for the people of the 78 districts. The 78 districts are from the states of Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh. The decision was taken after a review by Dr. Manmohan Singh regarding the progress of the programme which is already under process in various districts of the country.
