Nearly 52 lac Aadhaar numbers have been issued to the people of Himachal Pradesh. A maximum of 11 lac Aadhaar numbers have been issued in the Kangra district of the state. About 95% of Aadhaar enrollment is estimated to be covered up by the end of the year. To achieve this goal enrollment camps might also be setup at the Panchayat level in the coming days. Special enrollment camps have been setup at the Central Zonal level for those who have not enrolled for Aadhaar yet. Along with this enrollment camps are also being setup for the joint enrollment of people from 4-5 Panchayats in the state. Officials say that besides this if large numbers of people are missed out from enrollment then camps will also be setup at the Panchayat level.
The work of Aadhaar enrollment has been distributed in 4 zones. Under this the first zone includes Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan and Kinnaur. Kangra and Chamba districts are part of the second zone while the third zone includes Mandi, Kullu and Lahaul and Spiti. The fourth zone includes Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur. Aadhaar number will be useful in accessing various government schemes where the beneficiary has to prove his identity. Besides this Aadhaar number is also being used in the direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme. This will ensure that only the legitimate beneficiary gets the benefits of the scheme.
