Under the scheme of direct subsidy transfer into the bank account of the LPG consumer, the Aadhaar enrolment work is lagging behind its defined target in Batala, Punjab. 15 February was the deadline set for finishing Aadhar card enrolment process in Gurdaspur district. For the enrolment of LPG consumers the machines were setup at every gas agency of Batala by the government from 1st week of February but till 15the February only 10% of enrolment work has been done. There are a total of 6 gas agencies in Batala. The scheme of directly transferring the subsidy amount from 31st March seems to be in trouble now. The consumers have provided their bank account numbers to the gas agencies but still 90% people are remaining from enrolment. Consumers have to pay market price of the LPG cylinder until they got their Aadhaar numbers and the subsidy will be transferred only after submission of the 12-digit UID number.
The Aadhaar enrolment process is being done at a quick speed at the Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib, Dhanaula in Punjab and will take place till 31st March. The employees there said that people are excited about Aadhaar enrolment. The timings of enrolment is from 9 AM to 5 PM. The people standing in the queue also asked for more machines at the centre so that the enrolment process can complete early.
