Meerut girls could lose scheme benefits because of Aadhaar

‘Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education’ is a central government scheme to ensure secondary education and at least up to 18 years for girls of backward classes and poor background. For transferring amount directly into the bank account of girls, this year Aadhaar number was asked to link it with their bank account but no one in Meerut has got his Aadhaar yet. The doubt this time is that girls could be denied of the scheme. On the other hand data feeding work of such girls has been also not started till now at the District School Examination Office. Education Director has asked all the District School Examiner to obtain user ID and password from district NIC for data feeding.

Under the scheme which began in 2008-09 a fixed deposit amount Rs. 3000 is opened in the bank in the name of the girl applicant below 16 years of age (as on 31 March). She will be eligible for using this money after passing 10th class and becoming of 18 years in age. The money cannot be withdrawn before this. Shiv Kumar Ojha, DSE Meerut said that absence of Aadhaar will create problems. A solution will soon be found after talking with NIC and work of data feeding will also begin.
