Petroleum Ministry has accelerated the work of joining LPG cylinder supply with the Aadhar card. Finance Ministry has declared that subsidy amount of the LPG cylinder will be credited into the Aadhaar linked bank account of the consumer from the first week of October. However, petroleum ministry has decided to provide subsidised LPG cylinder supply to those consumers also who have not enrolled for Aadhaar till now. Such consumers have to obtain their Aadhaar within 3 months from the starting date of the scheme. An official from the ministry said that the supply will continue if the reason is found valid. No distributor can deny LPG supply just because of non-availability of Aadhaar. The UID authority has been requested to setup special enrolment camps in remote rural areas for covering maximum people under the scheme. Official also said that not everyone in the country has a bank account. The ministry has also accelerated the job of linking Aadhaar number with the bank account.
Thought the central government has decided to launch LPG subsidy through DBT in the country from October but the preparations seem incomplete as far as the number of enrolments are concerned in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Out of a total of 21 crore population only 1.14 crore people in the state have enrolled for Aadhaar till 1st April. UIDAI began enrolment process in 2012 and in the first phase about 1.3 crore people of Uttar Pradesh were provided Aadhaar number. In the second phase the responsibility was given to Registrar General of India (RGI) in the state. RGI could begin the enrolment process in only 37 districts till 19 April and only 11.27 lakh people enrolled.
