Government is mulling over giving Aadhar card to Non Resident Indians (NRIs). A decision will soon be taken in this regard. Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister, said this during an event of NRI on Saturday. While addressing at the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas she said, “This has been decided that only government agencies will give permissions to female workers for employment in gulf countries. This decision is taken to ensure that no worker should become a victim of forgery”.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) organized Pravasi Bhartiya Divas for the first time. Sushma Swaraj urged NRIs to take part in such important programs. She added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to provide Aadhar card to NRIs. Till now Aadhar card is issued to those who live in India. She said, “You will be glad to know that PM Modi wants to issue Aadhar card to NRI in a similar way it is issued in India. However, nothing is finalized till now and government is mulling over it and a decision will be taken will soon”. As per UIDAI instruction, Aadhar card is issued to only those people who stay in India. It is not a document of citizenship.
