Government files petition in SC for modification in previous Order

Central Government has filed a petition in Supreme Court for making amendments in Supreme Court’s previous order regarding Aadhaar. Hearing on this petition will be done on Tuesday. Recently, the apex court announced its decision on Aadhaar that Aadhaar cannot be made mandatory for availing any scheme or service and also enrollment for Aadhar card should be optional and not compulsory. Government says that if decision on Aadhaar is not changed then a many schemes will get affected. Government is planning to rollout DBT scheme for LPG subsidy in the entire country as early as possible but SC’s order can greatly cause harm to government’s ambitious program. A bench headed by CJI P. Sathasivam will hear government’s petition on October 8. Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran presented this issue before the court today. He said, “We are demanding for a change in that order in which it was said that Aadhar card is not mandatory”. He added that this order can come in the way of many welfare schemes.
