Customers can now buy new mobile SIM card connection by using E-Aadhaar letter. Earlier, the downloaded Aadhaar letter from UIDAI website was not accepted as ID and address proof for buying new mobile connection. Telecom department has confirmed about this new rule.
However, the department has handed over the responsibility of verifying details like name, gender, date of birth, address printed on the Aadhaar letter with the UIDAI website to the representative of point of sale. The authorised person at the shop has to ensure that details printed on the Aadhaar letter are matching with the details on the UIDAI website.
Earlier this year, Rajan Mathews, DG, COAI and Ashok Sud, SG, AUSPI requested the department of telecommunication to accept e-Aadhar card as a valid identity and address proof for obtaining new mobile connection. Both these premier telecom institutes said, “It is very clear that there is no difference between the Aadhar card hard copy received by speed post and the one downloaded from the UIDAI website. Hence, it is our request to look into e-Aadhar card acceptance and issue new guidelines with respect to the same”.
This news is certainly good for those people who have not received their Aadhar card by speed post and want to use the downloaded version of the ID cum address proof document somewhere. There are still lakhs of people who have not received Aadhar card by speed post and are using e-Aadhar card letter as per their requirements.
