“The Aadhaar based Direct Cash Transfer scheme intended for certain segment of citizens will be an uncomplicated and accurate deal with the use of expertise knowledge”, said P Chidambaram. While attending a meeting in Puducherry Finance Minister said that with the existing banking system, the DCT isn’t a complex arrangement rather it is a simple project. There is no interruption of corruption in the exisiting banking system.
The government was discharging Rs. 2 lakh crore in the form of subsidies through various programmes for some intended segment of the country’s population. The government is hopeful of covering the entire nation under the DCT implementation in next year. He asked the officials to cooperate with the government for making the DCT implementation a success in the region. The Finance Minister is sure about the successful launch of the Aadhaar based DCT launch on the New Year day. Mr. Chidambaram analysed the preparations achieved so far in the union territory for the DCT launch.
The government has already directed the concerned authorities to make sure that all the beneficiaries have their Aadhaar number and a bank account without which the DCT implementation will not work for them. The reports have also claimed that there will be an annual improvement of 0.57% in the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through this scheme. The government is expecting that just like MNREGA scheme in the previous General Election, the DCT implementation might help them to retain their power at the centre. The governemnt has also decided to provide smartphone to every beneficiary that will cost an over burden of Rs 70 billion.
