Aadhar card is mandatory for students to avail benefits of scholarship program for the academic year 2014-15 in Punjab and Haryana. Both Aadhar cards and bank account numbers of students will be taken to directly transfer their scholarship amount in bank accounts. Bank accounts will be opened up after a tie-up with a particular bank. 1 or 2 weeks camp will be organized in college campus to open new zero balance bank accounts of the students. Besides this, Aadhar card enrollment facility will also be setup in the college campus itself. Colleges have to send data before 15th September to higher authorities.
Sushma Chaudhary, a PG College Principal said that bank account of student is necessary for scholarship. This session very few students have their bank account. Earlier when camps were setup for opening new bank accounts, students did not show interest in that. After that higher education has given instructions to colleges to open bank accounts of all the students. Full details of admission must be given to higher education department.
Students first apply for scholarship, after that college sends full data to higher authority. Colleges have to send this data before 15th September. Department will then allocate scholarship fund for every college of the state. Students will get their scholarship amount in their Aadhar card linked bank account by the end of their academic session. Camps will be setup in college campus for bank account and Aadhar card. Not only the first year students but any student who has not enrolled for Aadhar card yet can make his/her Aadhar card. Colleges will soon publish notice regarding the same.
