Government has given its approval to Aadhaar E-KYC for obtaining new mobile connection. This means that customers do not need to carry lot of document proofs with them to the retailer to get a new prepaid or postpaid SIM. Instead only Aadhar card and fingerprints of the customer will be sufficient to have a new mobile connection at the Point of Sale (PoS).
Government has issued new rules for E-KYC to expedite the process of online verification of the applicant. Introduction of this new scheme will also reduce the time elapsed in SIM activation to a significant level. Aadhar card based E-KYC means that the customer is authorising the company to access his/her details from the UIDAI server after going through fingerprint scanning at the service outlet or retailer shop.
If you have Aadhar card then you can buy a new SIM only with your thumb impression from the retailer or authorised dealer. Telecom companies can obtain name and address of the customer through Aadhaar number.
Vodafone India has welcomed this initiative from the government. Company said that it ran a pilot project in collaboration with the telecom department about the same scheme. The test of E-KYC was a success in two circles. Company said that it will soon provide the facility at its outlets to customers to get their SIM cards activated within minutes through Aadhaar based E-KYC system. A senior official from the company said that this is a step forward towards country’s digital India vision. E-KYC is a boon for all three entities viz., customer, service provider and the regulator. E-KYC is like a revolution in this field which facilitates customers to get telecom services at a very fast rate.
