Initially, the scheme will begin in Ariyalur district from next month in phase one while will begin in Trichy, Madurai, Pudukkottai and Nagapattinam districts in second phase from the month of November. A total of 25 districts of the state will be included in this scheme and scheme will begin in rest of the districts in later phases. An official reported to say that Aadhaar coverage in these districts is almost complete and this is the reason why they will become a part of the scheme. Recently central government announced that the scheme would be rolled out in a total of 269 more districts by January 2014 by implementing the scheme in few districts from the first day of every month. Government will credit the Aadhaar linked bank account of the LPG consumer with the subsidy amount and consumer will then have to purchase the cylinder at market price. A LPG cylinder costs Rs. 930 at market price in the capital while government offers Rs. 532 as subsidy amount for a cylinder making the consumer to pay Rs. 398 for a cylinder. Grace period of three months will be provided to enable the consumer to link Aadhaar with the bank account and submit it with the dealer. An official said that they are hopeful of covering 100% Aadhaar coverage in the state by end of this year.
